Sociology 1: The Study of Human Relationships

Why do people act the way they do? If you’ve ever wondered about human behavior, rules, or social change, you’re already thinking like a sociologist. This course introduces sociology—the study of human social relationships and how people interact within groups and societies. You’ll explore culture, socialization, groups, and institutions, and examine how they shape identity and behavior. The course also looks at why people follow or challenge rules, how inequalities develop, and how social change occurs. With a focus on adolescence and adulthood, you’ll gain insight into how society influences who we are and how we fit into the world. If you’re curious about people and motivated to understand—and improve—the world around you, this course is for you.
