World Geography - Semesters 1 & 2

2 Semesters

In the first semester, students will learn basic geographic concepts in order to understand how geography impacts their lives every day, including in decision making and the development of their worldview. Areas of exploration will include physical and human geography, the impact of human-environment interaction, and the tools that geographers and other social and natural scientists use to gather and analyze geographic data. Students will then apply those concepts to learn about the United States and Canada, Latin America, and Western Europe. By the end of the semester, students will have begun developing the ability to analyze geographical factors and how they impact the people of a region as well as its political and economic challenges and successes. Students will demonstrate understanding through the analysis of modern and historical scenarios and apply learning to

assess current events.

In the second semester, students will continue applying geographic concepts to Central and Eastern Europe, Central and Southwest Asia, South and Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, East Asia, and Australia, Oceania, and Antarctica. As they learn, students will continue to consider the factors that allow them to develop and refine their worldview. Students will build their analysis skills by continuing to assess scenarios pertaining to particular geographic factors. They will also compare and contrast the physical and human geography of different regions to further assess the impact of geography on culture, politics, and economics.
